Your active holidays in Defereggental

The Defereggen Valley

The Defereggen Valley, framed by the majestic mountain ranges of the Alps, is home to the village of St. Jakob. This picturesque area is nestled at the base of many lovely hiking trails, ski areas and the Hohe Tauern Nature Park.  In summer get “lost” in the fuchsia swaths of blooming rhododendron as you enjoy many of the activities the area has to offer: hiking, biking, e-biking, horseback riding, climbing and paragliding.  When the sun gives way to snow, further opportunities await you: skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, sledding, snowshoeing and ice skating.

Hiking Trails In The Defereggen Valley

The village in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park draws many walkers and hikers keen to explore the huge diversity of alpine plants and animals in the surrounding area.
Anyone who talks about Defereggen valley, also has to talk about nature. The three towns of Hopfgarten, St. Veit and St. Jakob form certainly one of the best known holiday regions in East Tyrol. Hikers in particular love this unspoilt region. And with good reason. Here, where mass tourism is an alien concept, it is quality which rears its head. These centuries-old high alpine villages, with their romantic wooden houses and restored mills are held in high regard by holiday-makers who adore the unspoilt, what is real and fine. Quality. Real nature lovers will find their entertainment in the open natural surroundings, while hiking for instance. The wide variety of themed hiking trails, leisurely walking routes in the valley and the variety-packed routes in the alpine region are inspiring. Not to mention the altitude tours into the realm of the three-thousand metre mountains. The spectacular highlight of a summer holiday in Defereggen valley is when the alpine roses are in bloom and the steep mountain slopes seem to glow red. A hiking holiday in Defereggen valley will leave you wanting for nothing.
