Lake Anterselva is the most spectacular scenery of the homonymous valley in the province of Bolzano. This alpine lake, nestled between the marvelous peaks of the Vedrette di Ries-Aurina Natural Park and characterized by waters with green-turquoise reflections, is located at 1,642 meters above sea level and is one of the most popular destinations in Val Pusteria. Although its size makes it the third largest natural lake in South Tyrol, a route allows you to make a complete loop.

The start of the path of Lake Anterselva in Val Pusteria is located in its immediate vicinity, at the parking lot of the Tirolerhütte hut. It is also possible to start the excursion around the lake from the parking lot of the Biathlon Center, located just 4 minutes on foot. Follow the signs clockwise. The nature trail is dotted with numerous expertly prepared information panels, which illustrate the local flora and fauna, the differences between the varieties of pine cones and the types of rock, also explaining what happens during an avalanche, and which species of fish populate the waters. of the lake. How to get to Lake Anterselva: by car or by bus. By car, take the Val Pusteria state road 49 (coming from Brunico towards Dobbiaco, after passing Valdaora, turn left for the Valle di Anterselva - if you come from San Candido, proceed towards Brunico and, just before Valdaora, turn right towards Valle di Anterselva), then continue for about 17 km along Via Anterselva until reaching the lake parking lot. It is also possible to reach it by bus from Brunico or Valdaora.
Tip: after a visit to Lake Anterselva, we suggest you continue along the Alpine pass regulated by traffic lights to Passo Stalle and take the opportunity to make a detour to Lake Obersee, located in Austria in the East Tyrol region.
Origin of the lake: it is said that long ago, in the place of Lake Anterselva, three imposing farms were built. One day, a beggar came up to ask for alms. But badly removed from the peasants, he predicted that all their farms would be swept away by a spring that would flow right behind the three farms. The premonition came true and Lake Anterselva was born.
