The Defereggen Valley

The Defereggen Valley, framed by the majestic mountain ranges of the Alps, is home to the village of St. Jakob. This picturesque area is nestled at the base of many lovely hiking trails, ski areas and the Hohe Tauern Nature Park.  In summer get “lost” in the fuchsia swaths of blooming rhododendron as you enjoy many of the activities the area has to offer: hiking, biking, e-biking, horseback riding, climbing and paragliding.  When the sun gives way to snow, further opportunities await you: skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, sledding, snowshoeing and ice skating.

Cross-country skiing in Defereggen valley promises variety, adventure and a feeling of exclusivity at the same time. Cross-country skiing is popular here, but it is not a mass phenomenon. You get to breathe in the superb winter air in St. Jakob, St. Veit and in Hopfgarten, while you find your very own pace. Some 70 kilometres of slopes provide everything that a cross-country skier’s heart yearns for – and much more. Almost the best thing about this is that cross-country skiing in Defereggen valley is not ‘just’ restricted to the winter months; you get to hone your cross-country skills right through to spring.

A combination of things you ought not to miss out on - wellness and perfect pistes. We want to be honest - Defereggen valley is a little bit “away” from it all. But not away in a geographic sense. Rather, it is far removed from what is standard and conventional. Anyone who comes here is not looking for mass tourism, or big parties. Anyone who comes here will find something quite different, more precious - perfect pistes, plenty of sun and family-friendly ski runs too. There is almost nowhere else that you can enjoy more relaxed and better skiing than here. On the one hand there is a really superb “Funpark”, where snowboarders feel as though they are in heaven. On the other, your search for culinary and traditional tasty treats will be quickly rewarded with success.
